Another birthday request...

Tonight during snuggle time, Jenna informed me of another item she'd like for her birthday. Afterall, it looked cool on the commercial. Mind you, her birthday is in March.
Tonight's addition to her gift registry?
A gallon of paint from Home Depot.

(She didn't mention a color preference.)

As I am blogging tonight, Jenna is in her bed where she is supposed to be falling asleep. I am enjoying the songs and the commentary. This was the exchange moments ago:

Jenna: Mommy? (I estimate that she says this single word 1,569 times a day)

Mommy: Yes, Jenna?

Jenna: When it's my birthday, can I have a Jack in the Box?

Mommy: um, sure

Jenna: Thank you, Mommy.

and now she is singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

We're back!

My apologies to bloggerland. Thank you to Aunt Julie for the polite shoves back toward my Jenna blog responsibilities. We've been doing just fine. I'm learning a bit about the "trying threes" around here. From talking with other Mommies, I know that what is challenging us is far better than what some three year olds are doing to their parent's sanity, but it is challenging none the less.

My best day to report about is Mother's Day. This was the first Mother's Day that we've all been together - that is 10 years where schedules just didn't fall right. Usually one or the other has to work and usually Kyleah is with her Mommy. This year, the four of us were all together - what a wonderful Mother's Day present. I was showered with home-made cards and gifts and flowers at work. Daddy also treated me to a Starbucks gift card (yum!!!). We spent the day with family and fussed over Baby Talia a lot! (also a favorite part of my day) Jenna continues to be enthralled with that little one and still talks about how cute she is and "I think she really likes me".

Bubbles!

Severe Thunderstorm Watch-ing

It may look mid-day in this photo, but the time is actually 2:30 am. This is what happens when it begins to thunder outside. I'm not sure which one is more frightened when it starts to rumble outside - but both seem to just want company and some snuggle time to chase away the fear.

Everything but the Kitchen Sink

Jenna is having a sleep over at Grandma and Papa's tonight. Last night, we got out Jenna's "soupcase" and she began packing. She couldn't have cared less about clothes, she was determined to bring enough toys! Not much remained by the time she was done. She then rolled her "soupcase" around the living room saying "this is kinda heavy!"

Look out!

Jenna and I were reading a book together today. It was about farm animals and how they help on the farm.

Mommy: The horse helps by greeting visitors to the farm. What does the horse say to welcome people to the farm?

Jenna: Neeeeeiiiigghhh!

Mommy: The rooster's job is to wake everyone up when the sun comes up. What does the rooster say to wake everyone up in the morning?

Jenna: Cock-a-doodle doooooooo!

Mommy: The dog guards the farm and watches out for trouble. What does he say when he sees trouble?

Jenna: Look out!!!

Is it time?

Halfway through snuggle time, she wanted to move from my lap to the couch between Daddy and me. In order to do this, she knows she must recite the promise. She knows it by heart:

"I, Jenna pwomise to be a good gull. I will sit still. I won't wiggow."

(Mommy confession: This mantra started only because I love to listen to her say 'good girl' and 'wiggle')

2.2 seconds later, the wiggling started.

A couple of warnings later, Daddy suggested that perhaps it was time for bed. She did not have a nap today and had spent quite a bit of time outside playing in the delicious sunshine.

"Is it time?" she asked.

Before I could answer, she jumped down off the couch and ran towards the kitchen.

"I'll go see what time it is," she said on her way.

"But Jenna, you don't know how to tell time." fell on deaf ears.

Several seconds later, Jenna declared: "It's forty o'clock. It's nigh-night time."

And she scampered to her room.

It wasn't long after tucking her that it become quiet down the hallway. As I covered her up, she uttered a big deep sleepy sigh, then resumed her cute little snoring.

Jenna: "Grandma and Papa are very sad."

Mommy: "Why do you think they are sad?"

Jenna: "Because they miss me so very much."

She has a point, it has been four days. :)

Not how I remember it all going down

Tonight during snuggle time, Jenna pointed a wiggly finger towards the pictures on the wall of Aunt Julie and Uncle Scott's wedding.

"That was from the wedding, Mommy" she told me.

"That's right, Jenna Bean, do you remember who got married on that day? Who's special day was it?" I asked her.

She seemed confused.

"Remember, Aunt Julie married..." and I paused for her to fill in the blank. "Me!" she exclaimed, and then very matter of fact, she said, "Aunt Julie married me".

"No, Aunt Julie married Uncle Scott, remember?"

"Aunt Julie married Uncle Scott. And then she married me."

New blog to share

My cousin Brian and his wonderful wife Kelly, recently had a beautiful baby girl. Baby Talia, as she is known in my house, is the only baby Jenna cares to talk about. In fact, if she sees a picture of another baby on my computer, she insists it is Baby Talia and is quite offended if I tell her that it isn't. Jenna already has dibs on teaching her to play "Tag, you're it" and how to do a sommersault. She decided these two things on our way to see Talia the day she was born.

While you are waiting for me to quit slackin' on this Jenna blog, I give you adorable Baby Talia pictures to tide you over.

Spring

There was a big fat robin in our front yard tonight. I took the opportunity to talk to Jenna about Spring.

Mommy: "I bet that robin is trying to find sticks to build her nest. Do you know what she will do after she builds her nest, Jenna?"

Jenna: "I don't know."

Mommy: "She'll lay her eggs in the nest. Do you know what happens next?"

Jenna: "They hatch!"

Mommy: "That's right! Then what happens?"

Jenna: "SHE EATS THEM!!!!!"

Perhaps I tried this little lesson too close to Easter Egg time...

Songs by Request

Song titles according to Jenna - here is how she asks to sing certain songs. It is up to the singer to determine what the heck she means.

"Up above" = Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

"The Okey Doke" = The Hokey Pokey

and my personal favorite:

"If you're happy in your nose" = If You're Happy and You Know It
